Following the narrative of the Chronicle of Diponegoro, there is a story about Kyai Zakaria, a follower of Prince Diponegoro who fled to Malang, East Java. The two texts appear to be different, yet the second is an extension of an existing text. Because there are figures from Prince Diponegoro's war when facing the Company, the text of Prince Diponegoro serves as a background for the story of Pasarean Gunung Kawi. The findings demonstrate that the Chronicle of Diponegoro does not mention the Pasarean Gunung Kawi figures directly. The study method is based on descriptive qualitative research principles. The object of this study is the Chronicle of Diponegoro and the traditions of Pasarean Gunung Kawi, Malang. The objective of this paper is to comprehend the process of producing texts derived from written texts in the form of chronicles and developing them into oral texts of oral tradition or folklore.
